More Fence and One Gate is In!

The first (and smaller gate) is in a working great.  Here is Gordon in his shop working on the gate.

Below is the 4’Wx7’H gate installed.  Gordon did a beautiful job, didn't he?  It’s made of cedar, reinforced with metal plates.

We spent several hours today installing wire bracing (see the diagonal wire and also above the large gate hole?).  This is because when the second layer of fencing was put in on the east side, it pulled the gate polls off vertical.  Gordon is checking with his level to make sure all is OK before pressing on with the construction of the second gate.

Cat Cave #1 is Moving Along

The gravel and mulch have been picked up at the local hardware stores.  The plan is to put gravel around the base of the inside of the fence, just in case we have any little critters that might want to try and dig their way out!  The mulch is to become a large “cat litter pan”.  We will see how that works out.  Should be cheaper than wheat cat litter!

On my way out to check progress, I saw Andy sitting in the garage window.  As I passed by he asked me when we were going to have his Cat Cave ready!  He poses behind heavy duty wire screen that Gordon had to install because they kept ripping the regular screens whenever they felt we weren’t letting them out frequently enough!

The cage is roughly shaped like the crude diagram below.

Zach Woodfin, helper extraordinaire, came over at 8 a.m. both mornings this weekend to help Gordon!   It was cold when they started each day … just above freezing temperatures and no sunshine!

Gordon and Zach have installed cross bracing and wire above where the two gates will go.   Here is the beginning of the 4x7 gate at the North end.  They also had to install a small support vertical beam because the farm fencing needed more support along the span.

Here is how the South end with the 6 x 8 gate is coming along.  The bigger gate is needed to get the riding mower in there if needed.
